Best Makeup of the 2012 Oscars

There was so much fabulous makeup on the Red Carpet last night at the 84th Annual Academy Awards. I loved looking at not just the dresses, but the way the stars wore their hair and makeup.

Here are my five most favorite Oscar makeup looks:

Angelina Jolie's makeup was gorgeous. She pulls of the classic red lip so beautifully. You can use natural makeup to get Angelina's red lips.  The perfect, Hollywood starlet red is #369 from NVEY Eco.

Octavia Spencer looked stunning in her beaded gown. Her makeup was lovely as well, as her lips were kept nude and she was given a smoky eye. Get the eye look with the NVEY Eco eye shadow palette.

Michelle Williams looked flawless last night. Everything was just right, especially her lipstick.  Primitive Natural lipstick in Belize will give you a similar lip shade.

I adored Emma Stone's eyeliner look. Give your eyes an instant lift by drawing your liner upward for a night out.  I recommend  the Living Nature Natural ye Pencil in Smoulder.

Jessica Chastain looked absolutely radiant last night with her strawberry locks and porcelain skin.  Get that natural glow she had with Christopher Drummond Saude Pele Radiance Booster.

Get Michelle's Makeup Look

Michelle Williams

Hamadi Shea Pomade will add dimension and lustre to short hair like Michelle's pixie.

Even out skin tone and give a radiant glow with Christopher Drummond VeludoVelvet Foundation.

Define your eyes to make them pop! One of my Nature's Basin favorites is the Cake Liner from NVEY Eco.

A soft shade of blush applied to the apples of your cheeks looks lovely.  Try NVEY Eco in #957.

For lips similar to Michelle's, try Primitive Naturals Lipstick in Martinique.

Get Adele's Grammy Makeup

I thought the Grammy Awards were fantabulous last night.

So who had the best makeup?

The winner is an easy one for me--Adele, the winner of 6 Grammys last night.

Adele walked the Red Carpet with beauty and grace and looked timeless and elegant with her black gown and red lipstick:

At Nature's Basin, we offer a lovely variety of organic makeup and you can find everything you need to get Adele's makeup look right on our site.

After applying your natural skin care, apply Christopher Drummond Concealer and Christopher Drummond Veludo Velvet Foundation.

Set the look with Christopher Drummond Versatile Pressed Powder.

Sweep on a creamy base eye color from lash line to brow bone.  Christopher Drummond Beige works well.

Apply a dramatic black line to upper lashline with NVEY Eco Cake Eye Liner in Black.

Curl your eyelashes with your favorite high-quality eyelash curler and apply 2 coats of mascara.  I recommend NVEY Eco Moisturizing Mascara in Black.

A true red lip without nasty chemicals can be found. My recommendation for Adele's look would be NVEY Eco #369.

As you can see, you can get celebrity looks using natural makeup. Stay tuned for our next awards show makeup look when the Oscars come in 2 weeks.

No Lead Here!

We've all heard about lead contamination in lipstick.  Back in 2007, Senators Kerry, Boxer, and Feinstein wrote a letter urging the Food & Drug Administration to take action to ensure consumer safety after traces of lead were initially found in popular lipsticks.

Unfortunately, there is more news regarding lead in lipstick.  I received an email today from Stacy Malkan, Co-founder of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. It was regarding the recent news regarding the latest public study released about the epidemic of lead in lipsticks. While experts say that there is no safe level of lead exposure, many popular cosmetics companies continue to say that the small amount of lead in lipsticks is A-OK.  Shame on them!

With the increased awareness of the dangers of lead exposure, this is ridiculous. What is more troubling is that some levels of lead in lipsticks actually doubled since the lead in lipstick news came out in 2007.

Here is the list of 400 lipsticks with lead in them released by the FDA.  The biggest culprit: L'Oreal and its companies (such as Maybelline and Lancome).  I am disappointed in every company on  the list.

I am very proud to say, though, that as a company offering only the most natural makeup, none of our brands are on this list.  At Nature's Basin, we seek out only the companies with the best interest of their consumers at heart.

We offer safe and natural lipsticks such as Christopher Drummond and more:
