Preparing for Valentine's Day

It's that time of the year when everything is in love...but your head still hurts planning for that special day. "What gifts to buy?" "How many flowers to send?" "What dress to wear?" "What restaurant to book?" "Do I have enough cash?" "Does that look special enough?" "I want to do something out of the ordinary!" The head's buzzing with ideas, questions, concerns and a check list.

We all spend hours in front of the computer googling words like "best valentine's gift for him" "how to make valentine special for her" "cheap but good restaurants" "best food in town" and "Valentine's day recipes to cook." What I want to make sure though is that in all the planning we don't forget to take care of our skin and give ourselves that treat that will actually make us feel in love and make others fall in love with us! Cheesy is it? But that's exactly what u want!

So here's my little list of things to do for my body and skin so I can look my best on Valentine's Day:
  1. Take good care of your skin and cleanse it well so the pores open and your skin can breathe well. A healthy skin is a beautiful skin!
  2. Remember to moisturize your face daily after cleaning it well. A moisturized start to your day with the finest product will protect your skin the whole day.
  3. When we go to bed that's when our body gets to work to restore its energy and health. Applying and before going to bed. A deep moisturization at night will keep the skin healther for longer.
  4. Feeling best is an essential part of looking best. Indulge in a relaxing bath and come out feeling on top of the world. Amazing bath salts and bath oils should be an absolute essential for your body!
Remember a healthy, glowy skin is the key to beauty and you want to achieve that with natural ingredients that do not harm your body and skin. Only the finest natural and organic beauty care products can make you look extra beautiful on Valentine's Day!

Your Weekly Beauty Ritual

When life gets busy, it's so easy to neglect the little things that relax you and make you feel good about yourself. That's why I make a weekly date with myself to do a little beauty ritual. I pick an evening when things are slower around the house, and set aside a full hour (usually between a couple of favorite TV shows!) just for me. I take a warm bath for at least 20 minutes, an ideal time to apply a natural hair treatment like Weleda Rosemary Hair Oil and let it sit, as well as do a hydrating organic facial mask. So, get your husband to watch the kids, cancel some plans, do whatever you need to do to get that hour just to yourself. It's only one hour a week, and I promise it will be worth it. Regular care actually extends the life of cosmetic treatments you pay good money for, like facials and haircuts. And with great free shipping deals Nature's Basin, the organic and natural skin care products you need to do a weekly home spa come right to your door for less. Pick up the Pangea Organics Japanese Matcha Tea Facial Mask, which works for all skin types and is 25% off, plus the hair oil from Weleda. Be sure to wash up with a facial scrub before you get in the tub, to make sure your skin is primed to receive all the benefits of the mask, and try to quickly shampoo your hair before applying any treatment.

Clean up your skin care

Did you hear this week about the EPA policy that allows companies to keep secret certain chemicals if divulging their makeup will affect profits? (If you didn't, read about it here.) Pretty scary, huh? But before you get too overwhelmed thinking about all the unknown, and possibly unsafe, chemicals you're surrounded by, why not consider the chemicals you can control: What you personally use in your home every day. By choosing certified organic skin care for your bath and body, you're ensuring that what's on your skin, every day, is the cleanest you can get. While there's currently no certification in the United States for organic bath & body products, a lot of natural skin care is already certified by the same standards used for food, USDA Organic. And these are pretty stringent standards when it comes to lotion and shampoo! If many organic skin care products makers have their way, these standards might soon apply to all personal care that calls itself organic: the Natural Organic Standards Board has already recommended to the National Organic Program that they do. Until then, check out some of our favorite USDA Organic skin care at Nature's Basin, from brands like Erbaviva and Badger.

Scrub a dub dub

Exfoliation is good for your skin, but how much? It seems to be a place where lots of us overdo it. We think if a little scrubbing is good, more must be better. Your skin cells turn over every 28 days on their own, and exfoliation speeds that process, so you have newer looking skin more often. While the right amount of exfoliation makes your skin look less dull and more youthful, too much scrubbing, especially if it's not with a gentle natural facial scrub, can be irritating. Scrub too often and you have constantly new skin that's bombarded by the weather, sun, and other outside influences, and can become damaged. Here's my recommendation: Thicker, oilier skins can scrub several times a week, but if your skin is on the dry side, once or twice a week is probably plenty. And pick something with smaller grains, such as ground dried beans, because they scrub most delicately. Pangea Organics makes a great organic exfoliator, Egyptian Geranium with Adzuki Bean & Cranberry Scrub, we sell on Nature's Basin. And best of all, it's on sale right now for 25% off!
